Mostamanu Temple is located in Chandak, 7Km from Pithoragarh District of Uttarakhand. Mosta Devta is worshiped as the God of Rain in the Tehri Valley region. Every year on the day of Rishi Panchami in the month of Bhadav, a 3-day fair is organized in the Mostamanu temple complex. This is believed to bring ample rain to the region.
According to legends, Mosta Devta is believed to be the son of Indra. It is said that Kalika is the mother of Mosta Devta. It is also believed that Kalika Ji resides in Bhulok with the Mosta deity. Indra made Mosta his successor in order to free himself to enjoy his life on Prithviloka. Sixty-four yoginis, fifty-two heroes, eight thousand mashans live with this deity.
There is a stone in the temple premises of the Mostaya deity. No Bahubali can move that stone. It is said that it can be lifted on the fingers by taking the name of Mahadev. This miracle is in the abode of Shiva. Is it in that chant, or is it in that stone.
On the Pithoragarh-Chandak Motor Road, where the tourist rest house is located, there is the Ulkadevi temple, besides a memorial for the martyrs who spent their lives protecting the mother’s land.
Mostamanu Temple Pithoragarh provides a remarkable view of the vast valley. 18 km from Pithoragarh on Didihat road, there is a place called Totanola, from where 3 km long steep and arduous climb leads to Jayanti temple. On the way, some 200 feet below the main temple, lies the cave temple of Lord Shiva. The grandeur of the PanchaChuli and Nanda Devi peaks of the Himalayas can be clearly seen from the hilltop of Jayanti Mandir.
The goddess is believed to have achieved a terrifying form by conquering spirits and demons in battle. The temple has mystery and strange charm. Spirits are believed to have free sway outside the temple premises during the night.
