An advertisement may be defined as the science of arresting human intelligence until we get money out of it. One such scientist is none other than Sonal Dabral. Sonal Dabral is a name that requires no introduction. Formally known as the Ad Guru or Ad Wiz, Sonal is a man with various feathers in his hat.
He was born in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, on 1 January 1962. His father, Mr. Bhaskar Purshottam Dabral, was a Police officer, and his mother was a homemaker. Being in the police force, his father kept getting posted to various locations, so he had the benefit of spending his childhood at various locations. He completed his schooling at various locations. Ever since a child, he had a curious and creative brain. He was inclined towards painting and sketching. Unfortunately, his father passed away at a very young age. He shifted with his maternal grandmother’s family in Agra.
Sonal says that, in their family, there is an artist born in every generation. His grandfather was an artist, his uncle also had a keen interest in art, and now He is the one who has inherited their trait. At a time when people were not even aware that there was a dedicated study of designing, he decided to pursue his higher education at the National Institute of Design.
He was always very active in dramatics as well. In his initial college days, he would often participate in plays and would often write a few of them. After graduating, he started his acting career with a show that is well etched on the hearts of every 90’s kid, i.e., Fauji, alongside ace actor Shahrukh Khan.
He joined Ogilvy in 1991 and, from creative anonymity, drove it to India’s No. 1 creative agency. He conquered the Malaysian as well as the Southeast Asian market with his amazing creative skills. He is also passionate about speaking, specifically about advertisement, creativity, and so. He has been a keynote speaker at various events such as the Crystal Advertising festival, Spikes Asia, Dubai Lynx, etc. He has directed various cinematic ad films for companies like – Cadbury, LINTAS India, Mudra Group, etc.
He has also worked as a scriptwriter in Bollywood. For his future endeavors, he wants to explore the field of filmmaking, and on weekends he likes to be a Pro BlackJack player and sip on his single malt. He indeed is not just a name. He is an institution of creativity.
