Womeniya Band, A Dehradun-based all-women band, is what we are talking about. Womeniya is an all-women band that has been garnering appreciation from all over the nation now. Changing the music scene here in Dehradun, our girls are taking the music stage by storm. At age 16, Srividya Kotnala is the youngest band member.
It is inspiring to see how some of the band members have given up their high-paying jobs for their passion for music. The lead vocalist and founder of Womeniya, Swati, left a government job, Deepika Panthri at keyboard quit her bank job. Such is their devotion to music. They wanted to convey their message through music. They want to tell the authorities that action on all the crimes against women should be resolved quickly, says Swati.
The band has performed numerous shows across the state and has uploaded many Youtube videos. Their song targets the atrocities faced by women. They have composed and sung songs on Unnau and Kathua rape cases.
The songs are usually of Fusion, Sufi, Bollywood, or Rock genre of music. Womeniya band has a vision of creating a change. They want to spread awareness around the crimes against women.
They aim to create an atmosphere where women are respected.
They indeed are giving a voice to all those women whose cries are muffled by the societal norms through their soulful music.
