She was born on 8 September 1967 in Mumbai. She is deeply connected to her culture and was fluent in speaking Garhwali ever since her childhood. She married her beau Rajendra Singh Chauhan, who is a music director.
At the age of 15, she debuted with Udit Narayan for a Pahadi song. She got many opportunities to perform on stage. Her husband has been her most vital support system, she says. Kalpana Ji has proven that setbacks are opportunities for a comeback. She met with a fatal car accident, where she lost her right leg. “My family was my biggest support system, “she says. They encouraged her to never give up on her dreams.
Her son Rohit Chauhan is also in the music industry. At the same time, her other son is a cinematographer in Mumbai.
