Adi Badri Temple is one such temple that is established in the beautiful surroundings of the Chamoli district.
It is one of the oldest temples and is one of the incarnations of Badrinath temples. The mythological name of this temple was “Narayan Math.”
Adi Badri Nath Temple is a group of 14 temples, 16 km from Karnprayag. Earlier it was a group of 16 temples, but now there are only 14 temples.
The shape of the Adibadri temple is in the shape of a pyramid. Adi Guru Shankaracharya was the first to come to this area, hence the name Adi Badri Nath.
Mainly there is a temple of Lord Vishnu, and a 3-feet high idol of Lord Vishnu is worshiped in the temple. A tall Kali Saligram idol is also installed in this temple. In the courtyard of the temple, Lord Saligram is standing in the form of a quadrilateral. This idol is installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, and there is also an idol of Garuda Maharaj, the ride of Vishnu Ji, near it.
The idols of Kali Maa, Hanuman Ji, and other deities are also installed in the courtyard of the temple.
The priests in the temple are members of the Thapliyal family of Thapli village and have been doing the same for the last five-six generations.
Many stories are also associated with the construction of Adi Badrinath. It is said that the temple was built by the Pandavas in Uttarakhand while going to heaven. Another story says that it was built by Sankaracharya in the 7th century.
Every year the doors of Adi Badrinath are opened for the darshan by Hindu devotees, and it is believed that before visiting Badrinath, the doors of Adi Badrinath should be visited.
It is believed that by seeing the idol of Ashtadhatu kept in the temple and consuming gram nectar made from Tulsi Dal, one attains liberation.
