According to ancient folk tales, Maa Mathiyana was the mediator of the dynasties of Sirwari Garh. Her real name was Sahaja. She was married to Bhot, the prince of Tibet. Her husband was murdered by her stepmother with the help of some people of decimation. Saddened by the death of her husband, she went to Tilwara Suraj Prayag to commit Sati. The Devi arose at this very place. She reached Sirwadi and punished the culprits, and took residence there for public welfare. Every third year Sahaja Maa’s Jagars are held.
