During the period from March to May 2021, India was hit by the second wave of Covid-19. This was one of the worst phases for the country ever since the pandemic started. The healthcare system faced a huge load and was proven inefficient. During this time, a video of Dr. Trupti Gilada was released. She was seen helplessly groveling to people to not take this virus lightly.
Dr. Gilada was born and brought up in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She completed her schooling and later on decided to join the medical field. She completed her MBBS from Nair Hospital, Mumbai. She completed her Post Graduation in Internal Medicine from King Edward Memorial Hospital in Bombay. After that, she went to the U.S.A for her fellowship programs for three years. She intensively studied the nature of infectious diseases and HIV medicines.
In 2016, she returned to India. Even though her life in the U.S.A. was of a higher standard with the best of the best health care facilities, she believed that the impact that a doctor needs to create is can be possible only in India. She wanted to do something for her motherland.
Then came the testing time of COVID -19. She worked tirelessly in the COVID ward serving the people. This was during the first wave of coronavirus. Later when the country was hit by the second wave, she saw the helplessness of both healthcare workers and the people. This became her breaking point. She wanted the people to take the virus seriously.
Here is what she said, “Social media is both a blessing and a curse. We as researchers have failed to provide information to people in simple terms. That is why they choose to believe whatever hoax information they get on social media.”
Ever since then, she has been updating people through social media with the necessary information on this subject. She has made it her mission to educate people about the virus. Her work and service in this tough period have been highly commendable. All her efforts bagged her the title of Uttarakhand best doctor.
