Moteshwar Mahadev Temple is a temple located in Kashipur Tehsil of Udham Singh Nagar district in the northern state of Uttarakhand, India. Situated on the banks of Mahadev Nagar in Chaiti Maidan, this temple is said to be of the Mahabharata Era, and its Shivling is considered to be the twelfth sub Jyotirlinga. Due to the thickness of the Shivling, it is famous as Moteshwar Mahadev Temple.
According to Skanda Purana, Lord Shiva said that the devotee who brings Ganga water from Haridwar on his shoulder and offers it here will get salvation. Due to this belief, people offer Kanwar here to fulfill their vows. Moteshwar Mahadev Temple is located on the second floor. There is a copper floor around this Shivling, and it was made by an artisan of Jageshwar. Due to the thickness of Shivling, no one can surround it with both hands. According to beliefs, this Shivling is not established but rests on the ground. It is considered to be the twelfth Sub Jyotirlinga.
moteshwar mahadev mandir kashipur is basically a form of Bhima Shankar Jyotirlinga located in Maharashtra. Many people have tried to measure its depth with no success. People estimate that the depth of the Shivling is about 30 feet. Earlier, its ground floor was open, but in 1942-43, a few people died due to a stampede on the temple’s ground floor. The ground floor has been closed since then.
Now the temple is on the upper floor. It is said that earlier, the floor of the temple was of pure brass. A devotee brought marble stone on bullock carts from Jaipur and got it installed by melting the brass.
The inner walls of the temple are built from several angles. Many devotees renovated the temple several times. In 1980, after the fulfillment of Seth Moolprakash’s vow, he renovated the entire temple.
