India’s famous shooter Jaspal Rana was born on 28 June 1976 in Tehri Garhwal; Jaspal Rana is from a Rajput family of Uttarakhand. He has had his schooling and higher education from Mussoorie, Kanpur, and Delhi. Jaspal Rana had won 8 gold in the 1995 Commonwealth Shooting Championship. Ever since the inception of his professional career, he has been winning and setting new records. Jaspal Rana is also known as the ‘Torch Bearer’ of the Indian shooting team. He has enhanced the pride of India by winning medals for India in many competitions. He won 8 gold medals at the 1995 SAIF Games in Chennai and eight gold medals in the 1999 SAIF Games in Kathmandu. Narayan Singh Rana, the father of Jaspal Rana, trained him at shooting. Jaspal was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1994 when at the early age of 18 years. Jaspal Rana had achieved fame at the international level at a very young age. In 1997, he was awarded the Padma Shri and the National Citizen Award by Mother Teresa. Jaspal Rana was also fond of politics, so he tried his hand in politics and became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Jaspal contested the BJP in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections but lost the election and finally joined Congress in 2012.
In recent times the star shooter has opened his own academy naming “Jaspal Rana Shooting Academy” where he provides training to young shooters and prepare then for both national/international events.
