Govind Ballabh Pant was born on 10 September 1887. He was one of those architects who made the dream India map. Pant was a prominent figure in India’s Independence movement, along with Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi. He played a vital role, post-independence too.
He was a leader born in Uttarakhand who led many movements to support and help people here.
He is the recipient of the Bharat Ratna, and there are many universities and institutions in his name.
A famous dam is named after him as Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar Dam.

He was born in 1887 in Khoont village in Almora district, Uttarakhand.
He belonged to a Kumauni Brahmin family. His mother, Govinda Bai, was a house maker, and His father, Manorath Pant, worked as a government official.
He did his college at Allahabad University, and then in Kashipur, he worked as a lawyer.
He started working against the East India company in 1914 and entered politics in 1921. He was initially appointed by Congress in Kakori case I. 1920.

In 1940, he was arrested and sent to jail for helping in the Satyagraha movement and again arrested in 1942. After independence, he served as union home minister of India from 1955-1961.
He is the person behind making Hindi an official language of communication in most states of India.

In 1960, he suffered from heart issues and was treated by the best doctors in the country. He died of a heart attack on 7 March 1961.
The following morning, the then-president, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, said that we all had lost a gem, which would be a huge loss for the nation. Govind Ji shall always live in our hearts.
To pay homage to his struggle Indian Government opened a university in Uttarakhand naming Govind Ballabh Pant University where a number of degree courses are provided to students.
