An activist, A professor, and woman who holds the beacon of bringing change is none other than Dr. Pratibha Naithani. Dr. Naithani one of the most famous personalities of Uttarakhand has worked for a cause that was a concern for some people, yet no one ever did something about it. But before coming to that, let us first know about her a little bit.
She was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra but her family originally hails from Pauri Uttarakhand. Her father Dr. S.S Naithani, was one of the best professors of the Hindi Department at Bombay University and St. Xavier’s college.
Dr. Naithani had a keen interest in the welfare of society. She worked on ground level for the betterment of women. She is best known for her PIL filed in Bombay High court. The PIL was filed against the broadcast of adult content on television channels. Her persistent efforts led to the bow down of international broadcasters before the Indian programming code. The Bombay high court issued orders to stop the programming of such content.
This was just the beginning, Dr. Naithani later joined the Reconstructive Surgery Foundation, which offers free surgical aid to acid attack victims. Dr. Naithani felt their plight and worked endlessly to get the victims free access to surgery. They provide free surgery not only to acid victims but to people with birth defects, burn, or injuries hailing from a weak financial background.
Apart from her Humanitarian work, she has also raised her concern about the over-violence depicted by advertisements that can be copied by innocent children resulting in accidents.
She also advocates for the welfare of women in the rural areas of Uttarakhand who are deprived of basic medical facilities.
Dr. Tripti Gilada is a wonder woman indeed. Apart from her philanthropic work, she is also a Rajasthani folk singer. She is a Non-Rajasthani singer to have possessed the honor of recording the state song of the royal family of Udaipur.
She is also among the first 7 women who completed the Nanda Devi Raj Jat. She has also trekked Mount Everest Base camp.
For all her social works, she has been facilitated by various honorary recognitions. Dr. Naithani was one of the 29 women chosen as the Power Goddess of India by ‘India Today’.
Even to this day, she continues her work towards the welfare of society. She is a true role model for all Uttarakhand and future generations.
