Chaiti Devi Temple is a famous Shaktipeeth dedicated to Maa Bala Sundri. It is situated on Kundeshwari road in Kashipur town. This place has been in great discussions since the time of Mahabharata. The remarkable thing about this goddess site is that a fair is organized every year at the festival of Navratri, also called the festival of teal. On the occasion of the Navratri fair, crowds of devotees gather here from far and wide to enjoy the fair of Navratri. Devotees visit the temple from far and wide to see the right hand of the mother. There is an old banyan tree in the middle of the temple. According to the Mahant of the temple, once the great ascetic had come to the temple. His eyes fell on this banyan tree, and he dried this tree with just a splash of water. He was then urged to make it green again, which he did, but the tree remained hollow on the inside.
The tree can still be seen standing in the chaiti devi mandir. The people of Kashipur also say that this tree symbolizes the sacrifice, greatness, purity of this temple.
