Bineshwar MahadevTemple is a 16th-century temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This ancient temple was built during the reign of King Kalyan Chand of the famous Chand dynasty. Interestingly, the toy city of Binsar, which used to be the summer capital of the Chand dynasty, was named after this temple.
There is an ancient Hindu temple at an altitude of 2480 meters above sea level in the village of Bisaona in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand state. That place of worship is Bineshwar Mahadev Temple, also known as BinsarDevta or simply Binsar. This 16th-century temple is popular in this area.
The presiding deity at this place is Lord Shiva, who is worshiped as Bineshwar.
The Shiva Lingam was revered during the Chand dynasty – King Kalyan Chand is said to be the creator. Binsar is known for its majestic views of Himalayan peaks such as Nanda Devi, Kedarnath, Trishul, and Chaukhamba and being home to a wide variety of flora and fauna in the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary.
Bineshwar Mahadev Temple Uttarakhand is situated in the middle of dense forests with lots of deodars and rhododendrons. The original bineshwar temple
structure had great archaeological importance but was pulled down by the authority to build a new structure. The temple’s central chamber forms the sanctum/sanctum or Sanctorum, where there are images of deities like Ganesha, Shiva-Parvati, and Mahishasuramardini.
The interesting feature is the presence of Lord Shiva and Parvati in the same chamber. Every year a fair is organized there on Vaikuntha Chaturdashi. It is said that this temple was built by Maharaja Prithu in memory of his father Bindu in the 9th/10th century.
