Bhuvan Rawat, a 32-year-old engineer who started the cleanliness drive called “Mera Gaon Swachh Gaon,” came back from Delhi with the aim of doing something good in the hills of Uttarakhand. He quit his engineering job in Delhi and found himself on the path to becoming a social worker. Bhuvan Rawat decided to take the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to a different height. He took this movement forward with a message which says, “We should not depend on the government even for cleanliness.” The government does what it does; we should support the government and prioritize our nation. Moreover, the duties should be performed with full devotion.
Bhuvan started a campaign named ‘Mera Gaon Swachh Gaon’ in 2017. This campaign alone made a significant impact in various districts of the state, such as Deoli Bagad in Chamoli, Khalu village in Pauri, and Tolma, a village in Chamoli, where 8,300 people attended.
As part of this campaign, villagers clean their surroundings and roads for two hours a month. In addition, eco-friendly dustbins have been installed throughout the village so that people can easily dispose of the waste. Apart from the support of the villagers, Mahila Mangal Dal in Kandara, Pauri, Uttarakhand has also extended their support.
According to Bhuvana Devi, president of the self-help group, its members work for the campaign every first and third Sunday. In this, the villagers are also involved, and the work is distributed among the people. And not only that, they themselves picked up the broom and Started clearing the garbage from the streets.
Seeing Bhuvan’s desire to clean up the surroundings, the people of the village soon joined him and extended their support. Bhuvan has also started a volunteer forum and identified 14 schools in Pauri where there is a shortage of teachers. Through the platform, people can volunteer to work in the school and distribute books and bags as per the requirement of the students.
Just as Bhuvan Rawat has decided to do so much for his native land at such a young age, similarly, the youth of the country should take inspiration from him and take a vow to do something good.
