Baijnath temple is located in a small town situated on the bank of the Gomti river.

Only the priest is allowed to see the face of the goddess usually. The rest of the public worships the goddess from behind the statue.
During ‘Nandashtami,’ a festival organized every year, and the ‘JaatYatra’ that is celebrated every 12 years, the goddess’s face is seen by everyone.
For the last 150 years, goats and lambs used to be sacrificed on ‘Nandashtami’ in the festival’s name. The honorable high court has banned this acting upon a PIL filed by the Animal protection society.
The primary market is 2 km away from Baijnath at Garur, where all the household-related items are available. Considered one of the region’s biggest markets after Ranikhet and Almora, it is one of the oldest markets in the region.
