Abhijay Negi is behind the activist group Making a Difference by Being the Difference or (MAD). He started it at the early age of 17.
An NLU-J and Oxford University alumnus, Abhijay Negi, had his ambitions high since 17 when he started his activist group MAD. An equally talented lawyer, Mr. Negi belongs to the Dehradun district of Uttarakhand.
Abhijay has won a handful of honors for his academic performance throughout college life. The most notable ones are India’s ‘Best Law Student’ Award, which he obtained for his paper on ‘Legal education reform and access to justice. Abhijay graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) at the University of Oxford in 2016-17.
Abhijay returned to his hometown Dehradun, after completing his graduation. He continues to function as the Founding President of MAD. Today the group is registered as an NGO and works in Conservation aimed issues of Uttarakhand.
Over the years, MAD has organized many drives such as food donation drives, cleanliness drives, etc. One of the benchmark drives was the launch of the clean-up campaign of Tamsa River. Tamsa River is the only freshwater stream still flowing in Doon, but it is polluted because of religious offerings and illegal misconduct.
During Covid -19 pandemic, he filed a petition in Public Interest questioning both the state government and the urban bodies responsible for the spread of COVID -19 due to littering in a public place. The petition seeks for proper implementation of the anti-littering and anti-spitting Act 2016 of Uttarakhand. The petition filed by Abhijay Negi solicited proper challan regulations by local bodies to ensure the enactment of a law.
Abhijay Negi being an Advocate deals with the cases of constitutional, matrimonial, service, transfer, promotion, and appointment matters. Through PILs, he deals with environmental degradation, sustainable development, encroachment of rivers, tribal rights, emergency medical services, and access to higher education.
Apart from advocacy and activism, Mr. Abhijay Negi is also a columnist in local newspapers. He is a man with talent, intellect, and hard work.
