Major General Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, the retired Major General also part of the AVSM, was born on 1 October in 1934 in Dehradun. He is an Indian politician. He was also the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand from 2007 to 2009 and from 2011 to 2012. He is a senior member of the Bhartiya Janta Party and was a member of Parliament in the 16th Lok Sabha, in which he was representing the Garhwal parliamentary constituency of Uttarakhand. Years ago, he was also a cabinet minister, Minister of the Surface Transport of the government, which was headed by the former Prime Minister of India named Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Major gen. Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri has done B.Sc, B.E., M.I.E. from India only. He also did his post-graduation in defense management from the College of Military Engineering situated in Pune, Allahabad University, Institute of Engineers in New Delhi, and Institute of Defence Management in Secunderabad.
He has also served in the Corps of Engineers in the Indian Army from the year 1954 to 1991. He has got many positions in the Army as the Chief Engineer, Commander of the Engineering Brigade, Commander of Regiment( during the war of Indo-Pak in 1971), and many more. He received the AtiVishishtSewa Medal from the President of India for his extraordinary contribution to the Indian Army.
Mr. Khanduri was the first member to get elected to the Lok Sabha from Garhwal in the year 1991 and its subsequent elections. He was the Minister of the State and had the independent charge of Road Transport and Highways from 2000 to 2003. This time he was under the lead of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Then he was promoted to the Cabinet Rank in the year 2003. As he was handling the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, he executed the National Plan of the N.D.A. and shaped the Golden Quadrilateral Project, which connects major Indian cities.
His father was a journalist named Jai Ballabh Khanduri, and his mother was a social activist named Durga Devi Khanduri. He is married to Aruna Khanduri and has a daughter and a son.
