The daughter of the mountains, Jyoti Rautela, started a campaign named ‘Mission Mera Gaon.’ In this campaign running in Lansdowne, Uttarakhand, Jyoti has built old age homes, where she is supporting the destitute elderly. Jyoti, who laid the foundation of this campaign in 2015, took a unique initiative named ‘Ashiana Old Age Home.’ More than thirty elders reside here.
Social worker Jyoti takes complete care of these elderly people, including basic necessities like food and even entertainment. Today, in just four years, Jyoti’s shelter has become a light of hope for the destitute elders coming from different districts of Uttarakhand. The belongingness with which Jyoti and her associates have decorated this unique world is remarkable. The elderly living here are very happy. Jyoti also celebrates festivals with them like their own family and visits them regularly to make them feel at home. During her visits, she sits and chats with them with a sense of understanding.

All kinds of needs of the elderly living here are met with adequate care. It is also the effort of the Ashram to reunite these separated elders with their families who have abandoned them. This small effort of Jyoti is proving to be very beneficial for the elderly.
The location of the Ashram is very pleasing and satisfying, providing a sense of well-being in itself. There is lush greenery and charming nature in the mountains of Uttarakhand. However, the employment opportunities in the mountains are negligible, and it is very difficult to survive here, especially for the elderly who are already past their golden period. It becomes challenging for people of this age to arrange for their bread and butter even when no one supports them.
