Late Indramani Badoni was in favor of a separate state which would help in the rapid development of hilly areas. Hence, he lent his voice to the long-standing demand for the creation of Uttarakhand. Great people are born with fire in their souls, and Indramani was a man who is known for his valor and remarkable efforts to make Uttarakhand a separate state. Badoni Ji is known as the “Gandhi of Uttarakhand” for using non-violence to raise his voice for a separate state.
It was the result of Indramani’s commendable efforts that the movement remained completely non-violent despite constant provocations from several districts. Indramani Badoni is a name that is counted among the most influential people of Uttarakhand. It was the dire circumstances faced by him that made Badoni Ji a rebel and filled his heart with enthusiasm to bring about a radical change in the lives of the hill people. Hence, Indramani Badoni became the forerunner of the Uttarakhand movement.
The intellect of a great man is reflected in his thoughts. In the same way, the distinctive personality of Indramani derives from his strange condition, principles, thoughts, and insight into life. His charismatic personality demonstrated that a layperson could certainly do the most unusual things and stand out from many others. Indramani Badoni Uttarakhand, a heroic man from Uttarakhand, was born on December 24, 1924, in the Akhori village of Tehri Garhwal. He did his Intermediate from Tehri Garhwal and graduated from DAV (PG) College, Dehradun, in 1949. When Indramani was a student, he took an active part in socio-political movements.
At the age of 27, the burden of responsibilities fell on his shoulders when he lost his father. Since he was the eldest of his siblings, he had to look after his family and raise goats to support himself. Later in the year 1971, he also lost his mother. Despite endless struggles, he sent his younger brother for higher studies in Ayurveda. Indramani’s final message to the supporters of the Uttarakhand movement was, “The people of Uttarakhand should not feel defeated. Until they achieve their goal, they should be allowed to wave their cause with strong winds.” His arrest angered the people, and the movement gained momentum, resulting in Uttarakhand’s formation on November 9, 2000. Unfortunately, Badoni Ji could not take his last breath in the newly formed state as he died on August 18, 1999.
