Maj. Harsh Vardhan Bahuguna was born in April 1939. He was a famous mountaineer of India and was also military personnel. Besides, he was an instructor of Skiing and Mountaineering.
Harsh Vardhan Bahuguna was born to Mr. and Mrs. Surya Datt Bahuguna of Dehra Dun.
He completed his education at Allen Memorial School, Mussoorie. Bahuguna joined the Indian Military Academy, Dehra Dun, in 1956. In 1958, He was commissioned in the Armoured Corps.
In 1962 at H.M.I, Darjeeling, he did his introductory course. After eight years, he became the best and famous mountaineer of India. He joined the expedition to Leo Partial in the same year. Later, he joined the successful expedition to Nanda Devi in 1964.
Major Harsh Vardhan Bahuguna died on his way down from Camp III (22,966 ft.) It was a great shock for everyone, especially the International Everest Expedition and mountain lovers in India and abroad. He died on Sunday, 18 April, on the West ridge at an altitude of 22,900 feet. He rested in peace in the lap of the beautiful Himalayas whom he had loved all life.
Death had tried before to rob him from us when he was on a mountain expenditure on 29 May 1965. An allergic rush was going through his body the night before he had to do the expenditure. He was confused about whether to complete or to lose coming so close to success. Being a braveheart, he did not give in.
He was a Padam Shree awardee by the Indian Government in 1972.
