Harish Rawat was born on 27 April 1948 in Uttarakhand. He is an Indian politician who served as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand from 2014 to 2017. He is a five-time Member of Parliament and a leader of the Indian National Congress party(INC).
Early life and Education
CM Harish Rawat is a Kumaoni Rajput from Uttarakhand. He was born in Mohnari village, near Chaunalia in Almora district of Uttarakhand. His father, Rajendra Singh Rawat, and mother Devki Devi always pushed him to do better in life. He did his primary Education from GIC Chaunalia. He completed his bachelor’s of Arts and LL.B. from Lucknow University.
He got married to his fellow INC Member and politician Renuka Rawat. She also did her Bachelor of Law from Lucknow University, Lucknow Uttar Pradesh.
Early age of political career.
He started his political career at village-level politics, and after staying as an Indian Youth Congress member for several years, he joined the Parliament of India in 1980. He became a member of the 7th Lok Sabha by defeating veteran Murli Manohar Joshi of BJP from the Almora constituency.
Chief Minister of Uttarakhand
Harish Rawat took the oath as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand in Feb 2014. After the flood of 2013, Vijay Bahuguna resigned due to criticism of his handling of rehabilitation. By over 19,000 votes in July 2014, Rawat won the election from the Dharchula assembly.
While in office as the CM Of Uttarakhand, he was always in Media and on social media due to his comments and criticism of the opposition.
In 2016, Rawat was summoned by NCB over the horse-trading sting when 9 MLA’s of his party resigned. A sting video was released on social media, and Rawat Ji faced immense criticism. In the video, he allegedly tried to bribe all nine rebel Congress MLAs to be back in the party, offering five crore rupees to each MLA. However, the legitimacy of the video was not confirmed. Rawat Ji remains an eminent figure of the state and is a source of inspiration to all.
