Angyari Mahadev Temple, situated in Chamoli and Bageshwar district, is a place of reverence for the local people there.
Situated in the Gwaldam area of Chamoli district, this temple becomes the center of faith for the devotees in the month of Shravan. Devotees flock from nearby and far-flung villages. At the same time, people who are fond of climbing the mountains and devotees of Mahadev come here to see this form of Mahadev even from far away.
The road to reach Angyari Temple is quite difficult. To reach where one has to walk 4 to 5 kilometers and reach through the forests. The path to reach here is quite different and difficult. The first 2 kilometers of the steep climb is half a kilometer, then a 1-kilometer steep climb. Then after inclined 2 kilometers downhill, one has to reach the temple.
The road passes through the narrow paths through the forests. Here, the weather is cold in the month of Sawan, and a different glimpse of nature is seen, which is soothing to the heart.
The legend that is famous about the construction of this temple is that Sage Agyari sat here and did penance to Shiva, and Shiva appeared here after being pleased. It is also said that Ganga Bhagirathi and Gomti river also descended here at that time. With the passage of time, the Bhagirathi and the Ganges became extinct, but part of the Gomti river is still present.
The Agyari temple is divided into two parts. The first part is where the river flows in the natural source, and there is a Jalabhishek on the Shivling. The second part is where the rest house has been built for the devotees coming from outside.
It is believed that whoever comes here with full heart in the month of Sawan and sees the form of Mahadev and Mahadev fulfills all their wishes.
