Born on 28 September 1982 in Dehradun, Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra took his inspiration from shooters by watching television at a very young age. Bindra completed his schooling at St. Stephen’s School, Chandigarh. Originally, he was a resident of Punjab.
During school, he was interested in shooting. Seeing his interest, his parents had built a shooting range at home for Abhinav’s practice.
Abhinav Bindra started shooting at the age of 15.
At the age of 15, Abhinav was the youngest participant in the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Abhinav’s biggest success came with a bronze medal in the 2001 Munich World Cup for setting a new junior world record score of 597/600. In the same year, sharpshooter Abhinav Bindra was also honored with the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.’

Abhinav was the youngest shooter of the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Abhinav won the bronze medal in the 2001 Munich Cup and also won the gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle held in Manchester in the year.
Abhinav did not qualify for the 2012 London Olympics, but he once again excelled at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and won a gold medal in the 10m air rifle event.
Abhinav Bindra was the first Indian shooter to win a World Championship gold in Zagreb and a gold medal in Paris.
Abhinav’s career was full of ups and downs, but he never gave up.
After retiring from shooting, Abhinav is now working as the CEO of his own company. After taking a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Colorado University, Abhinav is handling his company “Futuristics,” which is a distributor of German armaments.
In the year 2009, President Pratibha Patil honored Abhinav Bindra with Padma Bhushan.
A book on the life of the talented Abhinav has also been written ‘A Short History: My Obsessive Journey to Olympic Gold’ co-authored by Rohit Brijnath.
