He was a thorough gentleman who always pushed people to be a better version of themselves. Such was the personality of one of the most loved writers of Hindi Literature and the Garhwal region, Ganga Prasad Vimal.
Ganga Prasad Vimal was born on June 3, 1939, in Uttarkashi, a quaint town in Uttarakhand state. He completed his education from various places such as Garhwal, Rishikesh, Yamuna Nagar, Allahabad, and Punjab. Prasad Ji was an academic prodigy who started learning in the Summer School of Linguistics, Osmania University, Hyderabad. He was also awarded the University Fellowship of Punjab University.
His love for literature started from childhood itself. He had expertise in many literary and administrative fields. He started venturing as a freelance writer for a short tenure and then worked as an editor for the weekly ‘ Deshsewa.’
He worked as a research fellow for three years at Punjab University. He wanted the youth to engage more in Hindi literature; hence he worked as Research Supervisor for many research students at Jakir Hussain College, Delhi University (1964-1989). He has been interested in creative writing since the beginning of his career. He has dozens of poetry, novels, and short stories collections under his name. His renowned works are – Bodhi Vriksh, Vijap ,ItnaKuch, Koi Shuruaat, IdharUdhar, Apne Se Alag , Mrigaantak, etc.
Ganga Prasad Vimal books & literary work has received a lot of appreciation and awards from various countries such as the International Scottish Poetry Prize ( 1988), Diploma from Art University, Rome (1978), Dinkar Award from the Government of Bihar ( 1987) are some of them amongst the long list.
He worked as the Chief Literary Advisor for Argalaa, a quarterly magazine of Jansamvedna and Hindi Literature of the 21st century. In his career, he has worked on storytelling and educating people about the beauty of the Hindi Language.
His great soul departed for its heavenly journey on December 23, 2019, when he met with a motor accident in Sri Lanka.
