Archana Tomar was born in September 1979 in Sabiran village, Roorkee. She completed her initial and higher education at B.S.M College Roorkee. At the early age of 16, while was in 10th standard, she started taking interest in salons. As she was born in a Jaat family, saloon work was looked down upon by her family. This is something that is done by people of lower castes in the rural areas. Being a Jaat is considered to be a matter of pride, thus prohibiting such occupations. But she did not give up and along with her studies kept trying to learn something new in this line.
She started with a small salon in the village in the year 2000. Then her elder sister helped her in setting up a high-standard salon in Dehradun city in 2012. During this, she got a lot of support from her paternal uncle too. He always encouraged her to stay strong and face her problems with courage. Archana undertook many professional courses after that.
She loves to enhance her work with trending skills and learn new things. She continues to learn new technologies in the salon line even today. She has also taught salon work to many poor children and today those children are capable of earning well on their own. Today many of those children are utilizing their skills outside India in countries like Saudi and the UAE.
Archana has received many awards for her outstanding work. She says that her family members did not support her earlier but today they are proud of what she is doing.
She adds that women should not consider themselves weak and take their work interests to newer heights. Along with this, if you get a chance to shape the future of others, then never back down. Archana says that only together we can build a good society and eventually a good nation.
